 12th January 2016 Shamanism
Chris Gibbons

Shamanism is an ancient spiritual practice that dates back tens of thousands of years from places as widespread as Australia, India, Africa, North and South America, and the Far East.

The word "shaman" originates from the Tungusic Evenki language of North Asia while the term "shamanism" was first applied by western anthropologists to describe the ceremonial and ritual healing practices of these people.
During this talk Chris will briefly explain the shamanic world view and describe some of the healing techniques used by shamans.
We will also do a short drumming journey to begin to explore the shamanic state of consciousness.

For the last 10 years Chris Gibbons has studied shamanism with a number of teachers including Alberto Villoldo, author and founder of The Four Winds Society, and Paul Francis (therapeutic-shamanism.co.uk) who blends shamanic training with humanistic psychotherapy, alongside body and energy work. Chris has travelled extensively and sat in ceremony with many indigenous shamans mainly in Peru. She has also studied and researched shamanic cultures whilst travelling in South Africa, Australia, Polynesia, North & South America and Canada.

9th February 2016 No meeting
16th February 2016 Guided Imagery for Self-Healing and Personal Growth
Denise Wood

The imagination gives us access to aspects of our selves that are normally hidden and unconscious - the very aspects which create our reality, our health and our
relationships to other people and the world. Imagery gives us a different way of thinking about issues by allowing them to be represented non-verbally. It enables us to explore emotions that we might not otherwise be able to express, and to contact the unrecognised aspects of ourselves, leading to integration or healing.
This session will consist of one or more guided imagery exercises. Please bring something to write on and with. You may also wish to bring a cushion for your seat (the chairs being somewhat hard) and a blanket.

23rd February 2016 Sugar, Artificial Sweeteners and Natural Sugars
Louise Cooke

This workshop will explore how sugars and artificial sweeteners affect the body and mind. We will look at how the sugar cycle releases stress hormones in the body which gives a rush of energy, then messes with the mind and leaves you wanting more
. We'll then explore how artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame and Sucralose impact on both the body and mind in ways the producers would rather you didn't know. We will check various natural sugars and, using muscle testing, compare all three types to see which has the least deleterious effect on each individuals body.
Finally we will make and test some sweet snacks with natural sugar ingredients and coconut fat that will keep you fuller for longer.

Louise Cooke KFAP is an accredited Touch For Health and Brain Gym®Instructor. She is an experienced trainer who is an Educational Kinesiology Instructor and Consultant. She also sees clients on a one-to-one basis at her practice in Liverpool.

 1st March 2016 Natural Non-toxic toiletries
Denise Wood

Most toiletries and cosmetics are a cocktail of harmful ingredients, many of which are absorbed through the skin. It's an almost impossible task to decipher the labels and work out what's safe and what isn't. We'll take a quick look at the worst culprits, suggest a few safer brands, and then focus on the alternatives - simple, natural products that you can substitute for many of your daily body care products.
We'll then make a soothing facial wash, a lip balm and a face and body butter, and you'll have the option to take home a good sized sample of each. There will be an extra charge for the lip balm and body butter of £1.50 a jar, or £1.00 if you bring your own small jars, preferably glass (the kind you get with individual portions of jam in cafe's is perfect.) The facial wash will be free of charge.

8th March 2016 Spring clean your energy
Denise Wood

Many of us seem to be feeling somewhat depleted at the moment, tired and lacking energy, perhaps even a bit depressed. Maybe that's due to the season, but it seems more marked and more widespread than usual this year. We'll use this session to practise some energy cleansing and raising techniques, for both our personal energy and the spaces in which we live and work. And if you have a favourite method yourself, please feel free to share it with the group.

Bach Flower Remedies
Catherine Smith

In the 1920s/30s, Dr Edward Bach researched and discovered a system of flower remedies that can help us rediscover the positive side of ourselves. He believed that the attitude of the mind plays a vital role in maintaining health and recovering from illness. He developed a complete system of 38 flower remedies and also the famous Rescue Remedy, each of which were prepared from the flowers of wild plants, trees and bushes, which enable us to rediscover the positive side of ourselves and help us live emotionally healthy lives.
The remedies work by treating the individual rather than the disease or its symptoms. Today, these gentle but effective remedies are used worldwide.
If you bring a dropper bottle (at least 30ml) you'll be able to make some remedies for yourself during the course.

Catherine Smith is a practitioner and teacher of a range of holistic therapies. She teaches courses including Crystal Therapy, Colour Therapy and Reflexology at Adult Learning Centres in Liverpool.
